Fall Meeting - November
19, 2009
Meeting Called to Order 7:35 p.m.
Introduction of Board Members: Jack
Fitzgerald, Gary Wilmes, George Abrahams, Nina Van Tassel,
Larry Markes, Missy Kelly, Fran Reichenbach
Minutes Approved unanimously by
board.
Treasurers Report: Bank
Balance: 3, 500.00 Motion to approve report approved
unanimously by board.
Traffic Report:
Officer Pete Cordero of the West
Traffic Division says that he has currently been working
Beachwood Drive and hopes that this patrol will be continue
to be a regular part of his shift. George hopes that
Rodgerton and Ledgewood will be included in Officer
Cordero’s patrol. Although bad drivers provide a “field of
dreams” for a traffic officer, he hopes that once people are
aware of the police presence, the number of citations will
go down.
Crime Report:
Officer Mike Shea reports that one of
our members home was burglarized while they were on
vacation. Hooray for Hollywood, there have been no violent
crimes in our area but burglary theft from vehicle and home
burglaries continue to be an ongoing problem. Officer Shea
has provided tips for personal and property protection
especially as we approach the holiday season.
Several people have reported seeing a
“crew” of young black men approaching homes and attempting
to “sell” things to the homeowner. Officer Shea says do not
open your door to strangers. If they do not go away and
persist, call 911. If they just hang around looking
suspicious, call the non-emergency number 1-877-ASK-LAPD.
DASH Bus
City Council office has informed us
that the Beachwood Canyon DASH bus is under review for
possible termination due to low ridership. There are
possibilities of extending the route to Larchmont or The
Grove Shopping Center. Although the council office said that
those possibilities would be explored, since that promise in
2004/2005, no action has been taken but termination of the
route has raised its head again.
One member has suggested that they
increase trips during rush hours and maybe not have it run
during the day. Another member asks that a smaller vehicle
be used for the route to cut expenses and reduce the
environmental impact. Line 89 of the RTD used to run
through Beachwood to the Fairfax Transit Center. Lets
publicize the route to the neighborhood because maybe people
are unaware that it is here. Another member suggests that
the Hollywood DASH turn up Beachwood and include us in that
route.
DWP Project on Gower:
Tim Jacobi reported: Thanks to Fran and
the BCNA, the neighbors on Gower were able to work with the
DWP and make the installation of utility poles on the
streets, amenable to the neighbors. No views were destroyed.
Jack says the crews were conciliatory and polite to the
neighbors.
Holiday Events:
Jeffrey’s annual holiday party will be
held on December 3, 2009 from 6 -8 PM and the Trombone
Christmas will be held this year at Emmanuel Lutheran Church
in North Hollywood on December 20th.
Food Forward (www.FoodForward.org) is
an organization that will come to your home and harvest
fruit from your trees to help feed the homeless. Pedal Patch
Community will help you design and cultivate your own
sustainable garden if you can share your harvest with the
hungry in our community (www.pedalpatchcommunity.com).
Billboards:
George says that Carmen Trutanich is
cracking down on billboard placement in our area. George
says that the Hollywood Royal has chopped down trees to
place a billboard in the rear of the building. George has
taken photos of violating billboards and sent it on to
Trutanich’s office and is waiting for action.
Eda mentioned that, at the W Hotel,
they have three billboards that are obscuring the view and
ambience of Hollywood. One of the three is facing our
hillside community creating blight. Fran and George will
speak with Argyle Civic Association to contact the City
regarding those signs. They are the most impacted along with
their neighbors in the Hollywood Dell area.
