Studies will be conducted Verbena at Cheremoya, Hollyridge at Detour.
Officer Siel will follow up with the promise from the city to install a stop sign for
Beachwood at Rogerton. This decision generated from an exhaustive traffic study conducted
5 months ago.
Senior Lead Officer Bill Solle was just named Officer of the Year by
the Hollywood LAPD.
Crime Report: Senior Lead Officer, Bill Solle (Bill Solles area
is Outpost to Griffith Park, Franklin up to Barham and Forest Lawn.)
The Senior Lead Officer program will be reinstated on April 8th, 2001. The SLOs
will have 4 days of their service for the community and one day for patrol. George asked
about the homeless south of Franklin on Gower. Officer Solle says that there is a homeless
outreach program once a month. Contact Chantall Barrett Community Outreach Office
(CRO). There have been many burglaries from motor vehicles in our canyon. Two men were
apprehended in separate arrests with stolen goods from our area in their possession. Fran
mentioned a domestic violence matter on Glen Holly and a drug situation in the canyon.
Office Solle says that if we know of any drug situations going on that we should call
213-485-4318 West Bureau Narcotics.
Hollyridge Trail report: Mary Presby, Councilman Ferraros
office. After giving us a brief history of the property at 3180 Hollyridge, Mary says that
there is the need to continue to have access to that trail for the community. The city
needs to take an easement so that folks can go from Hollyridge up to the trail. The city
would like to implement the trail that the hikers have recently created and make it safer.
The city will work with the land use division and the city attorney to get permission to
do the work.
Outreach Committee formation: Fran appointed Viva Sullivan to be the
Chairwoman of the outreach committee. This committee will make the many phone calls that
are needed to the membership to remind them of meetings. Viva made most of the calls last
time with the generous help of Victoria, Lillian Little and MaryAnn Nelson. Viva will be
aided by Victoria, Lillian, Lucia and Helen Nelson.
Water Report: Jude Margolis, Safe Water Coalition gave an overview of
the East Valley Water Reclamation Project and a background on the situation in the
groundwater in the valley. She asks that everyone make a call to their city councilperson
to let them know that a new Independent Environmental Impact Report must be generated
according to the laws of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
William Emboden (Professor of Biology and Beachwood (Hollywoodland)
resident): Gave a report on the dangers of Chromium IV and how it relates to the
DWPs project.
Bylaws Amendment Formation: Fran asked Missy Kelly to study the
bylaws for possible amendments and improvements. When asked why this document needs
attention, Fran suggested that the term limits be re-evaluated. At present, we must
re-elect the entire board each year. Tina Roman and Shelley Feinman will be working with
Missy on this open-ended task.
Betsy Salkind asked about the helicopter noise. Victoria Gaw and Viva
Sullivan talked about the injustice they experienced at the last hearing regarding Van
Nuys Expansion. Missy mentioned some of the politics that are involved linking the
expansion to the current situation at LAX. The people will continue to speak out against
this expansion for the quality of life of the residents of Beachwood Canyon effected by
this on a daily basis.
David Livingston made a comment regarding Woodhaven getting paved.
Also is bothered by the cars speeding northbound from the village up to Ledgewood. His
home is a few houses north of the village and he is aware of this problem on a daily
basis. Some discussion about the possibility of speed bumps will be forwarded to the
Department of Transportation. David says he will continue his e-mail to the various
agencies. Fran will make a couple of calls to see if some action can be taken to resolve
this problem.
Nancy Girten agrees that they should study the traffic as it goes
north bound on Beachwood north of Ledgewood. She lives near Rogerton on Beachwood and
witness speeding traffic all the time.
Several people agreed that there should be some research done to see
if speed bumps would help resolve this problem. Fran mentioned that she believes the laws
regarding speed bumps may have loosened and it should be looked into.
Mary Presby, DOT and West Traffic to check on this speed issue on
Beachwood northbound from the village all the way up Beachwood. |
