Treasurer’s Report – Diana Knoll - $2,353.69

Snow Party – Claire Joseph: Third Annual Snow Party at Camp Hollywoodland for kids, there’s music, snow, sleds, on December 8th at 11AM.  Oaks, Hollywood Dell have donated already.  Planning Party at 9AM on Saturday at Claire’s house.
Motion to donate $300.00 to event, Diana Knoll, seconded by George Abrahams.  Unanimously approved.

Crime Report – Officer Bill Sollie – Cell phone number 213-509-7674:  Residential burglaries have risen to as many as fifteen in our reporting district over the past month.  This is good time to watch for suspicious activity and invigorate neighborhood watch programs. Over 52,000 radio calls handled by Hollywood Division in year 2000.  Hollywood is number one in making arrests in Los Angeles.

Security is now posted by Hollywood sign and Mt. Lee.  DWP helicopters are patrolling Lake Hollywood.

Mayor Hahn and City trying to hire more officers by improving work schedules to three twelve hour shifts.

Outreach & Membership: Volunteers that make phone calls need to have a reminder call.  Jeannette Bird has agreed to call each phone volunteer 10 days prior to the next meeting to remind them to make their phone calls.

Traffic Hazard:  Nancy Girten: Two deer have been killed by cars on Beachwood Drive south of Rodgerton and long range vision is that a person could be killed by speeding drivers. Brian Gallagher of Department of Transportation: Plan to put more stop signs in the canyon on Beachwood at thousand foot increments.  There will be a stop sign installed between Ledgewood and Belden on Beachwood.

Victoria suggested deer crossing signs. Brian said that people in the area are not aware of the dangers of hitting a deer and the signs are not effective. Nancy added that signs will not make people stop or save lives.

Neighbors wanted to know how to get an officer to write tickets for people who are speeding or roll through stop signs. Brian suggested they call Jerry Siel 213-713-0215 and ask him to watch a specific intersection. He added that Jerry is very good at staking out an intersection if the neighbors call him.

Stop sign or bumps at Carmen & Gower: Brian will order a study for rolling speed bumps but assures us that a stop sign is justified at Carmen Place and Gower due to a blind corner.

Tom Ellis has requested a light at Tamarind & Franklin
Street Report – Brian Gallagher
: George wanted to know if traffic signs be cleaned up? Yes.  Please write a letter.  All letters are investigated.  Give exact locations of needs and they will be inspected and action taken.  Brian has received July 23rd list of curbs that need painting and parking signs that need to be installed. It is almost completed and half of the September 25th list of actions needed has been completed. He added that he appreciates the detailed lists coming from the BCNA because it saves field time.

Brian suggests that we look at angle parking for Beachwood south of Graciosa. Angle parking on Beachwood between Graciosa and Franklin can be obtained by getting signatures on a petition. He will send us a petition for this purpose.

Nominating Committee appointed to find prospective board members for year 2002.  Byrd Holland and Diana Knoll (board members) and Ed Hayek (BCNA Member) will serve and report at next meeting.

Franklin Hollywood Hills Community Council to apply for certification on October 26th. Final boundaries meeting will be held October 25th at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood.  South boundary and Northwest boundary still undecided.

Motion to support Franklin Hollywood Hills Community Council made by Nina; seconded by Diana. Carried unanimously.

Motion to reimburse Bill Reichenbach for materials and postage to invite people to October 25th meeting. Carried unanimously.

Air Conditioning Report – George Abrahams

Request has been made to have Cheremoya Avenue Elementary school remove air conditioners from north side of mobile classrooms where they are less than eight feet from residential property. Terry Moren and school staff cannot do anything.  John Hagen, lower-level engineer agreed it was a problem but said it was in compliance and nothing could be done.  Administrative staff, Tom Garland 213-229-5980 has promised to take noise measurements.  George is pursuing AQMD violations.  Fran to contact LAUSD to get list of approved air conditioning units to research the possibility of BCNA raising funds to replace older model now in use.

Motion to adjourn 7:55PM.  Approved by unanimous vote.
