Beachwood Canyon
Neighborhood Association

Minutes - November 13, 2003

1) Crime Report 6A15 - Senior Lead Officer Bill Sollie

October 8, 2003 - Nov. 3, 2003

Boundaries: 101 freeway/Western/Forest Lawn Drive/Franklin Ave.

* Three Aggravated Assaults, (two in the vicinity of Beachwood Dr).

* Burglary theft from motor vehicles are leveling off at 26 incidents in this period.

* There were 18 residential burglaries in the area, most near or just above Franklin and a few in the Hollywoodland and Knolls neighborhoods with isolated incidents in Lake Hollywoodland and the Dell area.

ALERT:

Recently, a girl living on Beachwood went to Franklin, to Mayfair and then to Birds. At around 11:00 p.m. she walked from Birds toward her home up Beachwood alone.  A guy followed her.  She sped up and so did he.  He then threatened to shoot her and dragged her into 1962 Beachwood, which is an apartment building that is under renovation.   He appears to know the area.  The Police are looking for this man. He is a Male Latino 5'5"/5"6" tall, medium to thin build in his mid 20's with medium complexion.  He was wearing a gray knit cap with a large fold, dark baggy clothing, and has a strong Hispanic accent and is soft spoken.

2) Cheremoya Ave. Elementary needs help with the most basic of supplies.  Fran distributed a wish list and encouraged the group to give.

3) Mountains Trust Recreation Bill - Explanation of Invoice.  Fran explained that no property owner would be billed more than $40 in one year but that they are being given the opportunity to pay the 30 year assessment off at a small percentage of the total indebtedness.  Some said that they never received a mailing or the opportunity to vote on the issue.   Fran will email each of those guests with the e-mail address of the person that can answer their concerns about that process.

4) Traffic on Gower/Primrose/Carmen Place: (30 minutes)

Joe Taylor, West Traffic said that he just learned that Gower qualifies for the kind of enforcement that Beachwood has received with the radar, etc. Bob Camou, Department of Transportation (323-845-9835) said that BCNA should generate a written request to his office for whatever the neighbors want regarding traffic remedies. Many neighbors from the Gower area were present and requested that there be speed humps installed on Gower between Scenic and Franklin as well as a stop sign installed at Carmen Place and Gower.

Sevilla Granger asked Bob about the parking situation in the canyon. She will draft a request to the DOT for re-evaluation of the red curbs and that a study be conducted on the feasibility of having diagonal parking on at least one side of Beachwood.

Michelle Fleenor could not attend this meeting.
