Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association
Minutes - Thursday October 2, 2003

Board Members Present:

Fran Reichenbach
Missy Kelly
Tina Roman
Ed Hayek
George Abrahams

Call to order

Minutes from July 10 & August 21 approved

Treasurer’s report – tabled due to resignation of treasurer.

Motion to hire Shelley Feinman to sort out financial affairs of BCNA with a maximum expenditure of $200. Motion carried.

Street Closure Proposal: Homeowners on upper Mulholland Hwy west of Ledgewood need to have their street made private due to the increase in tourists and fun-seekers, creating a nuisance.  BCNA supports whatever the majority of the neighbors want.  In this case 99% of the homeowners have formed a coalition to get this done.

Crime Report – Senior Lead Officer Bill Sollie – crime is down. Attention should be given to improvement of lighting in our area. Sollie circulated cards for Operation Bright Lights and other helpful information. Also announced the October 10th Crime Business Seminar at the Director’s Guild. They will be discussing identity theft and terrorism. Also there will be a great town hall meeting on November 20 at the Mears Center at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood.

Traffic was discussed and Sollie suggested that we attend the Traffic Subcommittee meeting     letting Gary Minzer know about our concern so that they could be placed on the agenda. Fran will contact       Claire Joseph with date/place of next meeting – usually held at the Palace.

George complained about the tow truck stickers in many phone booths. Sollie took some samples      and will check on it.

Canyon Cove is still having prostitution problems with the trees overgrown creating a perfect dark      space for them to work in.

There have been suspicious-looking men hanging out in Lake Hollywood Park at night lately. Sollie   will look into it since we have had gang activity there before.

Snow Party

The snow party will be held at Camp Hollywoodland again this year. Each homeowner group donates. The Oaks is now in charge of the event where tons of snow is hauled up and blown to make areas where kids can sled. Asking for a donation greater than what we gave last year, the BCNA increased their donation by $100 making a total donation this year of $400.

Motion to donate $400 to this year’s Snow Party carried unanimously.

Additionally, the board voted to give any unspent financial accountant budget over to the Snow Party.

New Officers

Fran asked that people start considering a role as a board member for BCNA. A slate of nominees will be announced in the November meeting.

The old Chuck Berry home on Bronson and Hollyridge has been advertising their home using a sign on the lawn for a filming location. The city is investigating the legality of this activity. There will be an update by the next meeting.

Young-Gi from Councilman LaBonge’s office circulated important city numbers and brochures on festivals in L.A.

Parking was discussed with consideration for diagonal parking at some places on Beachwood.

Permit parking: Motion for the BCNA to generate a letter to the CD4 office requesting a meeting to discuss opening up the permit parking issue for the neighborhood behind and around the Franklin Strip restaurants – Carried.

Adjournment at 9:20pm

Next meeting on Thursday, November 13th at 7:30pm at Village Coffee Shop
