(To be approved at
the Summer 2009 meeting)
BCNA
Meeting
April
16, 2009
Meeting called to order by president, Fran Reichenbach at
7:30 p.m.
Introduction of Board:
Gary Wilmes, Jack Fitzgerald, Mary Anne Nelson, Nina Van
Tassell, Larry Markes, George Abrahams, Missy Kelly, Fran
Reichenbach, and Kim Dullingham
Treasurer’s Report:
Larry Markes - $3,060.00 is our balance. Report approved
unanimously.
Crime Report:
Senior Lead Officers Mike Shea & Armen Sevdahlian
(213-793-0710)
Mail Theft: Our
Senior Lead Officers attended a meeting with Postal
Inspectors and LAPD regarding theft of mail. It is
recommended that residents work with the Postal Inspector by
reporting all losses and obtaining and installing locked
mailboxes. If you discover that your mail has been stolen,
take a short walk down the street and you may find some of
it discarded. Then report the theft to the SLO and also to
the Postal Inspector’s Office in Hollywood on Wilcox.
Stats: Latest
Crime Stats (3/29/09 – 4/04/09) are 1 car break in on
Beachwood and 1 stolen car on Beachwood.
The
latest average LAPD response time is 5:02 minutes for the
Hollywood Division. One neighbor stated that the police
should be aware that Glen Green is omitted from their maps.
Personal Safety:
Peter Asplund, Impact Personal Safety, says that
Impact is a non-profit organization that has been
teaching self-defense for over 25 years. All residents
should learn how to defend themselves, set verbal
boundaries, and improve self-confidence.
1 in
3 women will be sexually assaulted. The ratio drops to 1 in
30 when self-defense is taught. A workshop is being offered
and when there is enough people enrolled, classes will be
taught at the rate of only $50.00 per person. Contact the
BCNA if you are interested in attending these workshops
(323-462-1514).
Traffic/Parking:
Shawn, Dept. of Transportation spoke of the visibility
problem for southbound traffic within the Village – in order
to improve the line of sight problem (to protect pedestrians
crossing Beachwood), three parking spaces must be forfeited.
This
intersection (the Village) will not meet requirements to
install a “smart crosswalk”. It is the number of pedestrians
crossing that determines need for a “smart crosswalk”.
(Smart Crosswalks are the ones that have lights that blink
on the crosswalk when a pedestrian has pushed the button.)
Helen
asked for Pedestrian Crossing warning signage.
Heather/Durand Dangerous Drop Off:
Cultural Heritage Commission
will hold a meeting (May 7, 2009) to discuss barriers and
improvements to “dangerous” roads i.e. Heather & Durand.
Noise: Many
complain about helicopter and aircraft noise in the canyon.
There is a group that has been working for many years on
this issue: Stop the Noise – Gerry Silver
gsilver4@earthlink.net. Donate and get on his list
so you can take action in the future when hearings about
this issue come up. Also, report excessive helicopter noise
to Jean Smith 818-994-7200 at Congressman Howard
Berman’s office.
Council District 4:
Sharon Shapiro (CD4 deputy)
shared the new navigatehollywood.com website which
provides early notification of street closures. Sharon’s
number is 323-637-7629.
West Traffic: Max
Reyes, Parking Enforcement of LAPD’s West Traffic Division.
People keep running through stop signs on Beachwood Canyon.
He asked that neighbors drive more cautiously.
Wildlife:
Gregory Randall,
Wildlife Specialist, Animal Regulations: Statistically,
coyotes and wildlife complaints have dropped significantly
and maybe related to last year’s wildfires.
Event Ideas: BCNA
would like to propose a charity event for Glen Green.
Suggestions so far include holding a flea market with all
proceeds going to charity. We are open to other ideas and
also to ideas of charity beneficiaries. Some ideas are
animal shelters, Police Activities League, homeless
charities, etc. Send us your ideas and if you can, volunteer
to help organize it.
Next
meeting scheduled in the summer – to be announced.
