Development - An Important Priority

The Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association is actively involved in reviewing all projects that come up for review. We have learned a hard lesson regarding the recent approval for the expansion of a home that will result in an over 8,000 square foot structure in an area where homes are approximately 2,500 square feet. We’re almost certain that our presence at the hearings of the Design Review Board (Hollywoodland Specific Plan’s oversight board) would have made a huge difference. It’s possible that this project would not have been approved.

But we need your involvement as well. Your presence at the Design Review Board level, observing and asking questions about new building or expansion projects is vital. In addition, as projects go to the Zoning Administration (which they have done recently without the necessary consultation with the DRB), we ask that you ride with us to City Hall to comment on these projects.

Write to BeachwoodCanyon@sbcglobal.net and let us know to add your e-mail to our special Active Neighbor list and we’ll send you a special note when these meetings/hearings are to take place. We’ll coordinate ride sharing with you. This kind of active participation can actually be empowering. And that’s a good feeling!

The DRB meets at the Village Coffee Shop at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. If there are no applications to discuss, no hearing will take place. We will send out notices in advance and post in the Village. If you are not receiving BCNA e-mail notices, please write to us at the e-mail above to get on the main list. You need to tell us if you want to be on the regular neighborhood list, the Active Neighbor list or both.

Whether or not you can participate on this level, please call our hotline if you happen to see something curious on a construction site or see the beginnings of construction that you are not prepared for. If the ground breaks without any notice to you from either the City or from us, then something may be out of order. We can help – but we need to hear from you right away with details.
