Glen Green Christmas Party: Glen Green is hosting an open party
including a trombone choir playing Christmas carols and carolers on
Sunday, December 17, 2006.
Motion to co-sponsor Glen Green Party by donating $500.00 (Nina/Missy)
passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report: We currently have $4,190.00 in our account.
Safety in the Canyon—Joy Efron shared how a neighbor fell down the
hillside and may be paralyzed and efforts to make sure that guests and
residents are safe on our streets. See the following Motion (Nina/Missy):
RESOLUTION

to Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association

5, 2006
WHEREAS a
resident of Beachwood Canyon fell from a City curb atop one of the
Beachwood historic-cultural walls and plunged down a steep hillside at
Heather near Durand on August 17, 2006, and
WHEREAS
the victim is paralyzed from the waist down, and
WHEREAS
the area where the accident occurred is a winding curve near a “Y”
intersection, and has a panoramic view of the HOLLYWOOD sign, and
WHEREAS
the area where the accident occurred has no sidewalk, guardrails, fences
or safety walls, and
WHEREAS
there are numerous dangerous steep drop-offs throughout Beachwood Canyon,
and
WHEREAS
the Hollywoodland Specific Plan precludes the erection of
barriers/structures atop any of Beachwood Canyon’s historic walls, and
WHEREAS
there are no sidewalks, guardrails, fences or safety walls in most of
Beachwood Canyon, and
WHEREAS
the vistas of the HOLLYWOOD sign, the canyon and the downtown Los Angeles
skyline provide an “attractive nuisance” inviting residents, visitors
and tourists to stand, rest, or sit atop the walls, and
WHEREAS
there are growing numbers of children living in the canyon, and
WHEREAS
the Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association is concerned about the
safety of residents and tourists,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association join the
Hollywood Homeowners Association in generating a request to Tom LaBonge,
Council Member, Fourth District, as well as to appropriate departments,
City of Los Angeles (1) to conduct a study to identify dangerous drop-offs
and other safety issues in Beachwood Canyon and (2) to develop remedies to
prevent people on foot, bicycle and driving motorized vehicles from
injuring themselves and others.
Motion carried unanimously.
Senior
Lead officer, Maggie Furmanski and Officer Mike Shea (213-793-0710)
were in attendance. Officer Shea is now to be our new Senior Lead Officer.
