Opening remarks from President Larry
Markes praising the board and community for their energetic work in the
neighborhood.
Crime report: SLO Bill Sollie, crime
is down. In the last month there have been 2 vacant houses leveled:
The first was on Carmen just north of Franklin where the
“Skateboard Nazi’s” were squatting. The other one is 2014 Holly.
This home was in probate when transients started squatting there and it
too will be leveled soon. Hollywood Bowl has encampments surrounding it.
Last month the equestrian unit cleared the canyons of vagrants. During
their transition from the hillsides they appear on our streets so it seems
like there are more recently. Near the Ford theater, they go up from
behind and catch them camping out. 101 and Cahuenga,
the underpass was full of transients. Labonge’s office will place
signs for street cleaning, this will keep the sidewalks clean as well.
The sting operations that go on
downtown. The number two place for the homeless is downtown.
Fire season is also bringing signs
announcing Red Flag days so that people will not park in those spaces
during the times of high fire danger. Wind and humidity cause the Red Flag
alert.
City council passed a new law that it
will be ticketed to go into affect mid February.
Robbery on Beachwood last week. Two
Hispanics with a gun approached a man and asked for his money. 2100 block
of Beachwood.
Solicitors: Sollie has been getting
e-mails from people all across the hillsides regarding solicitors going
door to door. It’s against the law to solicit after 9pm. If it’s a
charity they must have an information card.
The people that drop off kids to solicit must have a business, tax
or sales permit. The detectives haven’t connected them to any crimes.
If you have a camera phone, pretend
like you are using the phone and take their photo and give it to the
police. Sollie will give me Det. Busher’s e-mail address.
If people live in a van, the police
can enter and bust them.
