Fire
Chief Fry gave a presentation of how he came to create the Red Flag Day
system in our hillsides neighborhoods. Due to narrow streets our fire
engines cannot respond well during a fire emergency. When humidity is low,
temperatures high, and wind fast (Santa Ana wind conditions), there will
be no parking allowed on the designated choke points of narrow streets.
Soon we will see signs being installed by the city outlining the fact that
cars parked in those choke points on a Red Flag Day will be towed. But
first the Fire Department will be knocking on the doors at choke points
early in the morning when they know that it is going to be a Red Flag day.
They will do what they can to alert the neighbor and towing will begin
around 11am. Meanwhile, Santa
Ana conditions occur typically on 3 to 7 days per year.
To know if any day is a Red Flag Day, one could call 3-1-1. Many
network news stations tell about Red Flag Alerts in their morning weather
forecasts. At the same time, LAFD.org will also be a place to check for
Red Flag status. In the future, you will be able to sign up for an
automated phone call the morning of Red Flag Day. The cost of the towing
fee plus the citation is approximately $200. Chief Fry will be writing a
regular piece in the Beachwood Voice.
Fire
Station 82: Fran announced the meeting with the Prop F Administrative
Oversight Cmte on Friday 3/17/06. Eric Sanjurjo said that the city’s
commitment to move FS 82 to Florentine Gardens has not been abandoned.
Crime:
Tabled till next meeting – our new Senior Lead Officer, Maggie Fernanski
will be at work this Monday March 20th. Neighbor Jeff Johnson
(Tamarind) said that he has had cars in his parking garage at the condo
broken into. He also had some evidence of tampering in his laundry room.
The neighbor whose apartment building abuts the rear property line behind
Jeff’s condo building found a man tampering with her washing machines in
the laundry room of her building. She ran him off but recognized him as
the resident in a camper that has been parked on Tamarind for a year or
more. She needs to see the Wanted poster for that suspect so that she can
confirm that this is the same person. Fran will try to get that flyer and
send it to Jeff.
Treasurer’s
Report – Gary reports that we have $4,022 in the bank. The bank has now
begun sending our statements on time after we threatened to change banks.
We have many new members. Motion to accept report (George/Nina) passed.
Hollywood
Community Plan – Larry explained that we should hire Robert Nudelman to
consult with our planning and zoning committee in order to create a good
response to the plan from Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association at the
cost of $75. Motion to hire Nudelman as a consultant (George/Jack) passed.
FHHCC
Adopt a Highway report: George reported that the weekly work to clear
CalTrans property of homeless encampments and general trash has been
successful. He is concerned about a plan by the Hollywood Dell, now that
the area of Ivar And Franklin has been cleared and improved, wants the
city to lean on Cal Trans to allow the Dell to construct a rock and cement
Welcome to Hollywood Dell feature on that property. Some responded by
saying that the Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association should also
request such an installation at Gower off ramp at Beachwood Drive. At the
same time, others are suggesting that Argyle Civic make the same request
for Argyle and Vine. The decision was unanimous to defer consideration of
this item until the next meeting to give the board time to formulate a
simple motion and take appropriate action.
Adjourned
to go into executive session – Officers were chosen and remain the same
as last year – President Larry Markes, VP, George Abrahams, Secretary
Fran Reichenbach, and treasurer, Gary Wilmes.
