Hollywoodland
Resurfacing:
Motion
to join the Hollywoodland Homeowner’s Association in their effort to
have the City repair and resurface the streets in Hollywood
(Missy/George) – Motion Carried.
New
Police Captain:
Police
Captain, Clay Farrell shared that medical issues caused the departure of
Captain Sanchez after 31 years on the force. Clay has never worked
Hollywood but has 29 years in the force. He has worked some real troubled
areas and so is well prepared for Hollywood. The police are now in a
pro-active mode since Bratton. There has been 13% reduction in crime since
last year. Clay’s objective is to have safe communities all the time. He
has an open-door policy and can be reach through the senior lead officer.
George
says that a whole lot of car break-ins because of the homeless. Captain
Clay says that he believes that drugs drive a whole lot of crimes that
occur.
Fran
asked about how he would deal with a facility that houses the homeless but
does not require them to be clean and sober. He said he would step up
patrol.
Geoge
asked about the Consent Decree. He says that when creating documents
arresting a gang member, if an officer’s serial number is not readable,
the whole report is deemed out of compliance with the Consent Decree. The
Computer Tracking System mandated by the Consent Decree to follow officer
behavior has not been completed. Teams II was not up and running so the
Consent Decree has been extended three more years. All forms involved in
an arrest or ticketing require race and gender information. The officers
were worried about whether they could get in trouble for stopping too many
of one gender.
Senior
Lead Officer, Maggie Furmanski – Burglary suspect has been breaking into
laundry rooms and there has been a male black burglary suspect on Live Oak
Drive. She encouraged people to lock their doors and windows. Vehicle
break-ins are common here. Ipods are getting stolen so leave your
belongings in the trunk. On the Westside near Melrose, there have been
distraction burglaries. Usually they claim their cat ran into the yard –
don’t let people in unless you know them.
Susan
said that last Tuesday a girl knocked on her door asking for help but she
had no signs of stress – she went to get water for her and when she came
back, there were three of people. She didn’t open the door and Maggie
commended her for that.
Argyle
near Hollymont was hit real hard. There are many cars being broken into
near Birds Restaurant.
Arriana
shared how the cars don’t stop at the Ledgewood five-way stop (Ledgewood,
Deronda, Rodgerton). What can be done to create an atmosphere that is
safe? Maggie will get traffic enforcement – Clay will work with West
Traffic about this issue.
Send
list to Maggie – Mike Shae will replace Maggie while she’s out.
Ira
Handelman: Blvd6200, 7.5 acre site just east of the Pantages – Clarett
signed a 99-year ground lease with Nederlander to develop the site. This
area is not the site for a high-rise. You can look forward to neighborhood
serving retail with nderground parking.
There will be 5 stories over retail with live-work spaces.
Neighbors support this project. The CRA and other city agencies want
high-rises – and less parking. They want the parking above ground
included in the high rise. They want an office project and they want more
and higher.
Clarett’s
definition of affordable is that the units are 1/3rd off. Out
of 1,000 units, 100 will be affordable. No CRA money is
being taken so the revenue goes back into Hollywood with 3 million dollars
anticipated revenue each year.
Helen
asked why Ira came to give us this presentation. Ira says it’s because
there are aspects of this project that needs to have community support.
One
neighbor said that Sunset Ranch is selling!
Bylaws:
Larry, Fran, and Missy will look over the bylaws and new bylaws may be
written and offered up for approval in 2007.
Special
guest attendees were Katherine McMann and Afredo Gonzolas from L.A. Youth
Network’s Group Home on Beachwood.
