Photos - Projects That Got Away
(We at BCNA are
committed that this trend of over building stops now!)

This photo was taken in the Dell - they
have no Specific Plan - is this the wave of the future for
Hollywoodland and Beachwood Canyon?

This was the beginning of
the retaining wall on Belden. Look at the height of
the worker at the base of it. How tall can this wall be?
Wow. Neighbors know this project - see below as it
progresses.

Is it my imagination or
did this wall get taller by at least five feet? This photo
was taken a few months after the one above. There is very
little room for landscaping - at least not meaningful
greenery like trees...
This
is what the Belden project looked like a few months ago in
the spring of 2008. Click the photo to enlarge.

Here's the same project
being framed. Let's stay involved - keep going to the Design
Review Board hearings (See the Development Page) and use
this project as an example of how things can morph from what
was originally approved. We need a closer relationship to
Building & Safety Code Enforcement.

This massive structure on the
left is located on Deronda just north of five points (you
locals know the place). Besides being built up to the extent
of the parcel envelope (not much landscaping visible), it
was built on a spring. This is illegal but look below to see
how they managed to get around that pesky non-stop spring
water. (enlarge any photo by clicking on it)

When you don't know how to
cap or divert running spring water under your property,
here's what you can do. These drains take the water that
nature has provided under this massive project and
allows it to flow non-stop into the
street on Deronda. Watch your step because this has been
going on so long that moss has formed on the asphalt. It's
very slippery and dangerous.

This is a Hollywoodland
Specific Plan Project and we watched it being built. The
City Planner was notified and reported it to the Design
Review Board and to Building and Safety yet it went up
anyway. This is a 6-foot-high wall (oversized) and is right
on the curb (should be set back according to municipal code
- not to mention the specific plan requirements...). There
should have been a hearing in order for the builder to get a
variance and the neighbors would have been informed. We need
some form of oversight or all our streets will have these
kinds of walls. Nope, this is not mansionization but it
interferes with community character all the same. As far as
we can tell, there is no privacy or security function of
this wall and it has been complete for over a year..
Dear neighbors,
